Rahul Sachdeva is a corporate finance consultant at PwC, based in Delhi. He trained as an electronics engineer, worked in the tech industry for a couple of years, and then moved into finance through an MBA before joining PwC.
Education and qualifications
Rahul completed a B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Indraprastha University, Delhi, with coursework in circuits, signal processing and communication systems. He later did an MBA in Finance from IMT Ghaziabad.
Why he moved to finance
After engineering, Rahul spent around two years working in the tech industry. Some of the projects he was assigned had a finance component, which is where he first worked with financial modelling, investment strategy and corporate structuring. That exposure is what led him to pursue the MBA and change tracks into finance and consulting.
Work experience
Rahul joined PwC in Corporate Finance after his MBA. His work there has covered mergers and acquisitions, financial restructuring and risk assessments. His engineering background lets him bring a data-driven, technical angle to financial analysis, which he considers a useful edge in consulting.
He also spent two years in Australia on a client-side engagement, working directly with clients and gaining exposure to international financial markets. He currently continues at PwC in a work-from-home consulting role.
Interests
Rahul travels frequently and plays squash regularly. He has also been skydiving, which he counts among his most memorable experiences.
Approach to work
Rahul has made the engineering-to-finance switch himself, through an MBA rather than a professional qualification route, and his mentoring reflects that: practical guidance on financial modelling, M&A and consulting work, from someone still active in the field at PwC.
