Akhil Sharma is a software engineer currently building event-driven microservices and integrating Generative AI into production systems at Betterworks. Alongside his engineering career, he has spent time mentoring aspiring developers and evaluating engineering talent as a technical interviewer.

Education and qualifications

Akhil completed his Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science at The Technological Institute of Textiles & Sciences, graduating in 2022 after a four-year program that ran from 2018 to 2022.

Work experience

Akhil began his engineering career at Geekster, where he worked on the full MERN stack to build and scale a feature-rich Learning Management System, contributing to a 30% lift in user engagement. He also refactored React components to speed up page loads and optimized backend services in Node.js and Express, cutting API response times and helping the platform maintain 99.9% uptime.

Akhil currently works as a Software Engineer II at Betterworks, where he has designed and deployed a Manager Verification Module end-to-end, replacing manual workflows and improving approval accuracy in production. He has resolved critical API performance bottlenecks using techniques like Axios interceptors and debounce logic, cutting redundant calls and speeding up page loads by 40%. His work has expanded into GenAI, where he owns the end-to-end delivery of an AI-powered feature, and into building internal developer tools including a PR-review agent and an automated test generator using tools like Claude CLI, GitHub Copilot and MCP servers. He has also engineered real-time notification pipelines and manages the deployment and scaling of microservices on AWS, integrating Kafka for event-driven communication across production workloads.

Mentoring experience

Akhil has mentored aspiring developers as an educator at Digikull, where he guided a group of mentees a mix of recent graduates and working professionals through daily group and one-on-one sessions focused on Data Structures & Algorithms and the MERN stack. He conducted over 25 mock interviews a month to help mentees identify weak areas, gave detailed feedback on their progress, and worked toward getting them job-ready within six months. He has also served as a Technical Interviewer at Intervue.io, evaluating candidates on data structures, algorithms and related engineering skills.
