Apple's biggest event of the year runs on Wednesday 9 September, at 10:00 AM Pacific Time 10:30 PM in India.
The phone most people are searching for will not be announced.
There is no iPhone 18 on Wednesday. Apple has broken a pattern it has held for more than a decade, and if you have been waiting for the standard model, the wait just got roughly six months longer.
There is no iPhone 18 this week
For years the routine was fixed. September arrives, Apple announces the full lineup at once — the standard model and the Pro models together — and everything goes on sale within a fortnight.
That is not what is happening in 2026.
Apple is expected to announce only the iPhone 18 Pro, the iPhone 18 Pro Max and its first foldable iPhone. The standard iPhone 18, the cheaper iPhone 18e and the iPhone Air 2 have reportedly been pushed to around March 2027.
This is a deliberate strategy shift, not a delay caused by a problem. Apple appears to be moving to two launches a year: premium models in autumn, more affordable models in spring. If that holds, it permanently changes the rhythm buyers have planned around for a decade.
The practical consequence is blunt. If your budget was aimed at the regular iPhone 18, Wednesday has nothing for you. Your realistic choices are to buy an iPhone 17 now at what will likely become a discounted price, or wait until roughly March 2027.
Every India price you have read is a guess
This is the part worth being honest with you about, because most coverage is not.
Apple has announced no India pricing. It will not do so until Wednesday night. Every rupee figure currently circulating is an estimate from a leaker or an aggregator, and they do not agree with one another.
Here is the actual spread being published for the same phone, the iPhone 18 Pro:
- Roughly Rs 1,34,000, per some Indian reports
- Rs 1,35,000 to Rs 1,40,000, per others
- Rs 1,39,900, the most commonly repeated figure
- Rs 1,44,900, per tipster Yogesh Brar
- As high as Rs 1,50,000, per some supply-chain-based estimates
That is a spread of around Rs 16,000 on a single model. For the iPhone 18 Pro Max, published estimates run from about Rs 1,54,900 to Rs 1,70,000. The foldable has been tipped at around Rs 2,49,900 in India, with international estimates putting its dollar start price somewhere between $2,099 and $2,299.
For context, the iPhone 17 Pro launched in India at Rs 1,34,900 and the iPhone 17 Pro Max at Rs 1,59,900.
Two things are pushing prices up this year: memory costs have risen sharply across the industry, and the new A20 Pro chip is built on a more expensive 2nm manufacturing process. Whether Apple absorbs that or passes it on is exactly what nobody outside Cupertino knows.
Treat every number above as a guess, including the ones repeated most often. Anyone presenting a single figure as the India price is telling you something they cannot know.
What Apple is actually expected to announce
Reporting from established Apple-focused outlets points to:
iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Both on the A20 Pro chip, built on a 2nm process. Storage is expected to start at 256GB, unchanged from the iPhone 17 Pro. The most-discussed hardware change is a variable aperture main camera a mechanical iris that allows genuine control over depth of field rather than software simulation. Reports suggest under-display Face ID has slipped to a future generation, and the Dynamic Island is expected to stay roughly the same size. Rumoured colours include Silver, Black, Light Blue and Dark Cherry.
The foldable. Its name is unconfirmed reports have used both iPhone Ultra and iPhone Duo. This is the genuinely significant product of the event, and its availability may come well after the Pro models.
Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4, with new AirPods considered possible.

A new CEO is running this one
Wednesday is John Ternus's first keynote as chief executive. He took over from Tim Cook on 1 September.
That has been almost entirely absent from Indian coverage of the event, and it deserves more attention than the camera specs. Cook ran Apple for fifteen years and presided over the iPhone's transformation into the most profitable product in corporate history. His successor's first act in the job is to introduce Apple's first new form factor since 2017 while simultaneously restructuring how the company launches phones.
First keynotes set expectations. This one will be watched for what it signals about direction, not just what is in the boxes.
The foldable is the real story
Apple has not introduced a fundamentally new iPhone shape since the iPhone X in 2017. Every model since has been a refinement of the same slab.
A foldable changes that. It also arrives years after Samsung, Google and several Chinese manufacturers established the category — which is characteristic of Apple, and which means it will be judged not on novelty but on whether it fixes the problems that have kept foldables niche: crease visibility, hinge durability, weight, battery life and software that genuinely uses the larger screen.
At an estimated Rs 2.5 lakh in India, it would also be among the most expensive phones Apple has ever sold here. Its practical significance in the Indian market is likely to be as a halo product rather than a volume one.
What this means if you were planning to buy
If you wanted the standard iPhone 18: it is not coming this week. Buy an iPhone 17 now, or wait until roughly March 2027.
If you wanted a Pro model: Wednesday is your event. Prices will be confirmed that night, Indian pre-orders are expected around Friday 12 September, and sales are expected to begin around 18 September at Apple's stores including Apple Saket and Apple DLF Promenade in Delhi, alongside online and retail partners.
If you already own an iPhone 17 Pro: on current reporting, the year-on-year change is modest outside the camera. The variable aperture is a real upgrade for anyone who shoots seriously. For most people it will not be.
Watch the iPhone 17 price. Apple typically repositions the previous generation downward after a launch, and Indian retailers discount aggressively into the festive season. If you are price-sensitive, the two weeks after Wednesday are often the best value window of the year.
On bank offers: Indian iPhone pricing effectively includes cashback, no-cost EMI and exchange bonuses that are announced with pre-orders rather than at the keynote. The headline price and what you actually pay are frequently several thousand rupees apart.
